Witnessed

Tuska Festival 2004, day 1

20/07/04  ||  Global Domination

Review by: Lord K, Hannastacia, Saija and Statik Majik

16.07. Friday

After drinking for 2 days, we woke up, and started to watch South Park like 7 times in a row. Like we have been starting out the other days as well.

Then off to the fucken festival. Lord K personally looked forward to seeing Dark Funeral play, just to find out that they needed his bass-services on stage, so we guess watching them will have to wait until another time. Anyfuckenway, we got all the backstage-passes sorted and headed inside for some beers and good company. Seeing the guys of Impaled Nazarene again was about fucken time since we haven’t met them in a couple of years. We stayed with the band at the backstage area for an hour or so and witnessed the band preparing for the gig. Lord K and (Global Domination-writer aka Nasums’ soundguy) T.E.X. prepared for something as well, we don’t know what though…

Later on we met up with the friends of In Flames (thanx for the guestlist-thing Jesper, again) and some of the guys of Dark Tranquillity. This made for a good evening to say the least. We got Marko on the same pic as his personal artwork-hero, Niklas Sundin ( see the pic yerselves ). Needless to say the fucker smiled throughout the whole evening after that. Marko that is.

Bands witnessed

Nasum on stage

Nasum: Good as always. New bassplayer Jon could be the coolest shit on stage since… pretty much whatever. Walking around drooling, spitting in air and catching his spit with his mouth. You know, the basic metal behaviour. Great show.

Impaled Nazarene: They dedicated “Nyrkillä tapettava huora” (“Fist killable whore” or something equally as sane) to Lord K, which was kind of cool. And Arkki wore (again) the TPH shirt he got from K two years ago . Now that´s some loyal support if you ask us.

Kotiteollisuus: Damn good show to say the least. Finnish heavy metal, sung in finnish. Lord K and Hanna decided not to view this gig. We don´t blame them. We had to leave the audience about 15 minutes before Kotiteollisuus ended the gig because Dark Funeral was scheduled to play immediately after them in a tent near the mainstage. Marko fucken seems to love this band alot, don’t ask us why. He actually forced K to get in the same picture with Jouni Hynynen, the leadsinger and guitarist of this very same band . Although Marko says that at first Jouni seemed to be slightly “on his toes” when K asked him to get in the same picture. Well, you know K, he fucken charmed the dude (even with leftovers of corpsepaint in his face) and they got along fucken well.

Dark Funeral: Killer show. Looking from the side of the stage, it seemed like K was the only one making eyecontact with audience and showing people to raise their hands and give the horns. Rest of the band pretty much just concentrated on playing. Masse spoke a few words with the people attending in between the songs, but in general they could’ve been a bit more in touch with the audience. Well, the crowd didn’t seem to mind and they seemed to have a killer time. We sorted photographing permissions for Saija for this gig, so we got more than a few killer pictures from concert. Funny sidenote is that someone forgot the key to the dressingroom which means the festival-organizers had to call in a locksmith, who eventually managed to open the door to the room, some 20 minutes before DF had to leave it to the cleaners.

In Flames: Marko, Saija and Saija’s friend Riikka deciced to have few beers after the Dark Funeral gig. And missed In Flames. Good for them, they didn’t seem to mind. In Flames probably ended up doing the best damn gig throughout the whole festival, even if we didn’t know that as we witnessed the guys. Good pyro-effects (that almost got us deaf as we stood but a few feet away from them), good sound and tons of hit-songs. In Flames have really gotten their live-shit together and are as tight as a nun’s ass. Excellent show.

Afterparty

We ended up with Jon (Nasum-bassist) and Olle (Nasum-soundguy, as told earlier, but since you guys are fucken retarded we point it out again for you) outside the festival. Jon disappears just to come back with some hat and a jacket he appearantly stole/“found” from someone.

Then we take a cab to Statiks’ girlfriends’ place. With 25 other people. Fat people, small people, fucken kids etc etc. We could easily have done without 20 of those. We managed to take a sauna (located inside the fucken apartment even, that’s luxury right there) and sit on the balcony and drink alot of fucken beers, bullshit and have a killer-time. Thanx to Jon and Olle for a great evening, we hope you guys made it back to the hotel safely.
